Saddam Hussein ruled over Iraq from 1979 until his execution in 2006. Known as “The Butcher of Baghdad,” Hussein sat at the top of an authoritarian regime and spent decades committing human rights atrocities. When he was finally brought to justice, it was estimated that he had been responsible for the random killing of 250,000 people.
So what makes a person become a killer? While it would be unfair to place the blame for Hussein’s many crimes on someone else, his own abusive upbringing no doubt helped shape the man he would become. This is the grim truth about the woman who raised Saddam Hussein.
