Political assassinations aren't a trend unique to Russia, but they are something that Russia has been known to do – especially under the leadership of president Vladimir Putin.
When it comes to Putin's so-called political enemies, the list of people who have died in mysterious circumstances (or as the result of simple, direct violence) is frighteningly long. In some of these cases, the mystery is unsolved, and the connection to Putin is unproven. In other cases, the connection is all-but-certain.
Nikolay Glushkov, Natalya Estemirova, Boris Berezovsky, and Alexander Litvinenko are just some of the politicians, journalists, activists and more whose deaths came too soon, and may have been state-ordered. Whether they were intentional assassinations or not, these enemies of Putin met grim ends.
